IMAP is now controlled by xinetd.


You should use /sbin/service command to enable IMAP


cd /etc/xinetd.d
cp login imap


Edit imap and point server = to the location of imap binary,
e.g.,


server = /usr/local/libexec/imapd


then
sudo /sbin/service imap start
