The Collections sort routine that takes a Comparable is an example of using higher order functions in the standard Java library, as is the File.listFiles() that takes a FilenameFilter.


For a much better syntax for higher-order functions, see Nice - http://nice.sf.net/. Nice compiles to the JVM and uses the Java libraries, but has many improvements on Java inspired by functional languages.
