ActiveRecord error? |

I am trying the cookbook example out on my Win XP laptop with XAMPP installed, and I keep getting the following error when I try to go to the following url:
http://127.0.0.1:3000/recipe/new
Error:
ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid in Recipe#new
Invalid argument: SHOW FIELDS FROM recipes
I am not sure what is happening, I have the correct login info/password, I have tried the sql with MySQL front. The only bit that I 'cheated' on was that I pulled the .sql from the full example.
Thanks in advance,
Sean
