I would agree that OSS has much to do with the success of OS X. My question is why Cocoa developers have not embraced OSS. This article shows all of the terminal and X11 applications, but where are the Cocoa applications? I was shocked when I switched to mac on how OS X is built on open source, but the Cocoa development community in many cases don't contribute open source code. Adium built on libgaim, and Cyberduck are my two most used OSS Cocoa applications.
