If we create disk image (.dmg) using given command, it creates successfully on 10.5 and 10.6 both. Then we can mount and copy the data and unmount it. The difference is in how data is laid out in image using it 10.5 and 10.6. For example, I have data of around 970 MB and creating image of 600 MB on 10.6 and it is able to accommodate my data. But it requires creating image of 1000 MB on 10.5 else it will give message "no space left on device".

I do not know that it compresses the data in 10.6 and it is due to some file system or due to changes in hdiutil in 10.6.

I would like to know is it possible to do the same thing in 10.5 with any option. What is the reason for this difference?

Thanks in advance.
