This panel brings together an esteemed group of industry experts to explore the status of data innovation in finance from the perspective of those responsible for investing in and cultivating its future. Join us for what is sure to be a lively and informative discussion about the role that larger institutions play in encouraging a vibrant ecosystem of sustained innovation. The event will include time for the panelists to field questions from the audience, as well as an opportunity to connect with them directly during a networking session.


Moderator: Ann Li, Managing Director, Center for Economic Transformation, NYC Economic Development Corporation

Ann Li is the Managing Director of the Center For Economic Transformation, New York City Economic Development Corporation ("NYCEDC") . She oversees the development and implementation of citywide policy recommendations to strengthen New York's position as the global business and financial center. Her work includes implementing initiatives designed to help support New York City's financial services sector, expanding opportunities for industry growth such as in carbon finance, and encouraging innovative business ventures from around the globe to launch and operate here in New York City.

Prior to joining NYCEDC, Ann worked as a strategy consultant for McKinsey & Company, where she collaborated on the Bloomberg-Schumer report assessing the City's strength as a global financial center and studied issues like immigration policy and litigation risk as factors in market competitiveness. Prior to her tenure at McKinsey & Company, Ann worked at the global consulting firm Oliver Wyman, where she advised financial services institutions on organizational issues and risk management.

Ann is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied at the Wharton School of Business and the School of Engineering, earning dual B.S. degrees with academic distinction.

Jordan Bettman is a Principal at Bain Capital Ventures. He joined Bain Capital Ventures in 2008. Since that time, Jordan has worked on both early-stage and growth-equity investments in a variety of industries, including data services, marketing services, financial services and technology, and digital media. He has also worked closely with numerous portfolio companies on senior level recruiting, strategic planning, business development, and company exits. Prior to joining Bain Capital Ventures, Jordan was an associate consultant at Bain & Company, focusing on a number of strategic and operational issues for clients across a handful of sectors. He also worked in Bain & Company's Private Equity Group, performing diligence on multi-billion dollar companies.

Jordan received a BS in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University—GO BIG RED—and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Maria Gotsch is the President & CEO at the Partnership for New York City Fund. Prior to joining the Partnership Fund in 1999, Maria was a Managing Director at BT Wolfensohn (now part of Deutsche Bank), providing strategic and financial advice related to mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures and the development of business strategies. Before starting with Wolfensohn, Maria worked at LaSalle Partners in the New York area and for Merrill Lynch Capital Markets in New York and London. Maria has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.A. from Wellesley College.

Ramneek Gupta is a Managing Director at Citi Ventures. Ramneek joined Citi Ventures in April 2011 to lead the strategic investing and incubation activities that will contribute towards Citi's goal of being the world's leading digital bank. His focus is primarily on identifying opportunities and investment themes in an increasingly connected world and partnering with leading entrepreneurs as they change the way we interact, consume, purchase and otherwise engage with people, content and businesses around us.

Ramneek brings over a decade of investing and startup experience to the Citi Ventures team. Prior to joining Citi, he was a Partner at Battery Ventures where he helped to develop the Online to Offline (O2O) Commerce theme and worked closely with portfolio companies including Groupon. While at Battery, Ramneek also led the India investment efforts for the firm and helped to build out an investment team and portfolio in India. He started his professional career as a design engineer at PMC Sierra and also worked on the hardware design team at TiVo.

Ramneek has an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and a B-Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay where he graduated top of his class.

Larry Lerner is a Managing Director of Accenture Analytics and a member of the group's global leadership team. Larry has extensive experience in Financial Services and Analytics, and returned to Accenture in 2012 after holding leadership roles in Banking, Payments and Capital Markets enterprises. Larry has led high performing global analytics teams and has built industrialized underwriting, marketing and credit risk management capabilities.

Prior to joining Accenture, Larry was a Senior Managing Director and Head of Analytics Advisory Services at Cognilytics, Inc., a leading global provider of distributed computing technology, predictive analytics, Big Data and business intelligence solutions. Previously, he was Managing Vice President at Capital One's US card division, where he led Product Development and Credit Policy, and had responsibilities for analytics, model governance and underwriting strategy. Prior to Capital One, Larry was a Partner within Diamond Management and Technology Consulting's Financial Services Practice (now PWC), as well as an executive at Citadel Investment Group, one of the largest and most successful Hedge Funds in the world.

Matt Turck is a Managing Director at Bloomberg Ventures, the incubation and investment arm of Bloomberg L.P.

In addition to actively pursuing investment and partnership opportunities for Bloomberg, Matt currently runs one of Bloomberg Ventures' incubated startups, the Bloomberg Institute. The Bloomberg Institute aims to become the world's leading online education and recruitment business for finance professionals, with products that span the lifecycle of a customer's career, from enabling students to get their first finance job to helping the seasoned executive learn a new product or asset class.

Prior to joining Bloomberg Ventures as a Principal in 2008, Matt was a Senior Director at Oracle, where he focused on global new product launches in the search, eDiscovery and collaboration spaces. Matt joined Oracle in 2005 as a result of the acquisition of TripleHop Technologies, a venture-backed enterprise software company that he co-founded and where he served as President & COO. Matt started his career as an M&A and securities lawyer at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York.

He holds an LL.M. from Yale Law School and is a graduate of Sciences-Po Paris.
