Reputation management

Recordings of the behavior of a node make up its reputation. Reputation management refers either to the practice of making such recordings and using the information to inform decisions, or of altering one's own behavior in order to affect recordings of it and the consequential actions. A node might refuse to offer services to a node that didn't offer services in return, for example. The practice of using behavioral recordings to inform tit-for-tat exchanges requires nodes to track and analyze behavior. For example, some Gnutella implementations cut off connected nodes which do not respond to requests for files.
