My award for beautiful coding goes to David Heinemeier Hansson.

Go download, install, and run Instiki. (If you don't have Ruby 1.8.1 installed, it's worth updating to it just to run Instiki.)

After you're amazed (will take only 1 minute) go to Rails. Watch the 10-minute video. Close your mouth: it's open.

Then go set up a free account at Basecamp. Add some schedules & deadlines. Play around a bit.

Absolutely brilliant. All of it. Did the beautiful language of Ruby inspire his style, or was it just a match meant-to-be?

I can't believe the stuff that David's done, and this is all just in the last 9 months or so!

I think he's my new favorite author.

Have you seen? Do you agree?

hi there,

tried just what you suggested. I could not run ruby at all -- I got an error message on my XP box "The application has failed to start because zlib.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem."

I ran the command
"ruby C:\tools\instiki-0.9.1\instiki.rb"

and got this problem -- yes i downloaded the latest ruby 1.8.1.

do you know where i can get a version of zlib.dll which will work with ruby ?

Thank you,

BR,
~A

I'm sorry - I've never tried it on Windows. (I'm on FreeBSD.) But the Ruby mailing lists are at http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/20020104.html and the small community there is very helpful. Ask there?

I read this because Derek is one of my favorite people. I have some stuff on his site. He is a leader who listens. What a CEO should be. I can only say that I'm glad I have all of the hair while Derek seems lacking only in that area.

Hair's to you Derek!
