Community Wireless in the UK
by Bruce Stewart
BBC News is reporting on the rise of community wireless networks in the UK, and a 400-node London-based network called Consume. Consume's founder James Stevens started the community wireless network when local laws prevented him from sharing a wired high-bandwidth connection by stringing a cable across a street.
"We found that there was indeed the potential for wide adoption and easy utilisation of the 11 megabits per second wireless kit for freenetworking," he said. "That's 'free' as in speech."
