document.layers!?
It appears this was written for 1997 era browsers… it attempts to detect the browser by checking for document.all (which is propietary IE-only) and document.layers (which is propietary NN4.x-only). The Mozilla family supports neither (and there's no reason they should, either), so in those browsers the script is broken. Opera has legacy support for document.all, so it can be viewed that way.

Cool trick. I first saw it about 4 years ago. It doesn't work in newer browsers except IE.


It just goes to show you how capable JavaScript is and how under used it is.

Clearly...
Clearly Mr. Subramaniam has not tried this little "applet", otherwise he would know that it doesn't work in most browsers of the 21st century.
