Faster CSV with FasterCSV

by Caleb Tennis

James Edward Gray II recently announced the release of FasterCSV, which is a replacement library to Ruby's CSV (that's "comma separated values").

The project aims to be faster and smaller than the original, with a better interface.

So far, it's looks great. It is noticeably faster. The interface is a little different, though arguably a little more thought out.

If you do any parsing of CSV data, I highly recommend you give it a look.

FasterCSV looks like a great improvement over the standard library csv module. There seem to be several improvements like this floating around RubyForge and the RAA. Should the community get involved in selecting and improving these libraries for inclusion into the standard library in place of the modules they improve on? If so, how should we go about it?

If you are using FasterCSV and it is not meeting your needs, please let me know. I fully intend for it to do everything CSV does, but better and faster. :)
