Flash Slideshows with Aperture and Soundslides

by Micah Walter

One of my favorite things about Aperture 1.5 is its extensible architecture. This means that third party software developers can create plug-ins for Aperture, opening up endless possibilities for integration with their applications.

One such application, which jumped on the plug-in bandwagon along with the release of Aperture 1.5, is Soundslides.

That's easy - direct export to Slide Show Pro, a Flash-based slide show tool.

Soundslides looks neat, though - the audio sync is a great thing. I wish FotoMagico could export a true, low-bandwidth Flash show.

It's not a requirement of the Soundslides plugin per se that masters are online before Export. It's Aperture itself that enforces this, for any plugin.

Thanks for the tip, Micah. I checked out some of the sample shows; this one, which uses interview audio rather than music, is rather nice: http://soundslides.com/examples/sample01

It ends abruptly, but the pacing throughout drew me in.

Are there any Flash generators that support pan-and-zoom or that convert QuickTime pan-and-zoom movies to Flash?

Allan - Yes, I have used SlideShow Pro before. I love it. - Very flexible and customizable. However, you need to have Macromedia Flash to set it up, and the audio controls are really only good for background music--no control over the timing of individual slides.

David - You can always make a slideshow in iPhoto which has the Ken Burns effect, output to QT and then import to Flash. But that means you need Macromedia Flash and a little bit of know-how.

Fraser - Yeah, I realize this now, though it would be really nice if there was a "use previews" export preset of something in Aperture.

hm, I'd like to try this one out, but where the heck do I get this plugin from? I can't find it on the soundslides homepage, can someone please point me to the location where I can download it?
