This is *THE MOST IMPORTANT* thing you can do at 7:00 PM tomorrow night. Please be there. You need to see this film, and you need to be a part of this discussion.

Please be there tomorrow night for the 7:00PM showing, or if this doesn't work there is a 12:05, 12:45, 2:50, 4:00, 4:55, 6:00, as well as 9:30 and 10:05

Seriously.

Please. We all need to see this film and, if possible, discuss the issues and what it is we can do to start making the necessary changes such that we can have even the smallest of hope of having much of a planet left at the end of this century. It's weird to think of it like this, but its a very realistic proposition that our children will still be alive at the turn of the next century.

Well, I guess that all depends...

Please come see this movie tomorrow.

Here is the Trax schedule. The theatre is One and One Third (1 1/3) blocks from the Gallivan Center stop.

Here is a map with a pushpin note marking the Broadway Theatre (111 E. 300 S., SLC, UT)

Here are the showtimes again,

12:05, 12:45, 2:50, 4:00, 4:55, 6:00, 7:00PM, 9:30 and 10:05

Sometime. Anytime. Tell your boss your sick. Tell your boss to contact me if he/she has a problem with letting you off work. If all else fails, quit. I promise, the heat you receive from your boss is nothing like the heat you may end up dealing with in the not too distant future. I'm not trying to be sarcastic, or funny. Please just come see it, no matter what.

Thanks!

NOTE: After viewing this film and participating in tomorrows discussion I will be walking the three blocks back to my home, writing the final pieces of a paper I have been writing, and launching a new project as the result. This may be the most important project I am ever a part of during the course of my entire life.

I guess we'll find out.

Until then...

See http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/5076322.stm - Arctic sea level reducing.

"what Gore's "majority of scientists" think is immaterial when only a very small fraction of them actually work in the climate field."

The symptoms are inconsistent, and are being viewed over a very short time (100 yrs ?? nothing in terms of weather and nature). In short, even the experst don't agree on whether there is a problem. And to listen to an american politician lecturing on pollution consumption and waste in general is like listening to Donald Duck talk about anger management - amusing, passes the time, yet ultimately totally incomprehensible.

Let's see, lie to the boss to go watch propaganda?

I count two mistakes.

@H4xx0r

That is a good point. In fact, if not mistaken, the tens of thousands of scientists who stand behind all in which Al Gore presents in this film never once make any sort of claim that it is.

But just in case others were confused, thanks for bringing this to the surface. You are, in fact, correct. No skys will be falling -- that we are aware of, anyway. Although meteors tends to show up without a whole lot of notice, so we do need to leave this as a possibility... You know, just in case.

@paul

If, in fact, you,

a) lied to the boss to go watch a film
b) knew well ahead of time that this was a propaganda film full of half truths, complete lies, and a few special effects to really send home the emotion

Whether it's two, ten, or ten thousand mistakes, is really of no consequence. You're just stupid, ignorant, and deserve to be fired.

I've seen these, and I've seen disputes to these... In short, nothing I have seen or read has yet led me down a road of doubt that its possible that all of these scientists who are not specialists must be thrown out as insignificant.

I know a TON of programmers who would rather chew on foil than program in XSLT, yet that doesn't mean they don't understand how the process of reading code to learn a language through analyzing works. The point being, is that while specialists do contain areas of expertise that non-specialists do not, does not mean they are incapable of using the scientific process to analyze the problem at hand and state, "oh yep... theres the problem right there..."

Sorry, but that particular argument is one of the more lame attempts I have seen to refute the opinions of tens of thousands of people who understand how to read scientific data, to then analyze it to determine what it means.

I'd like to see a graph comparing the rise in global temperature to the rise in funding looking for a rise in global temperature.

Re: some of these comments.

I find it incredulous that the small amount of 'hot air' (...) produced by a few (largely industry-sponsored) 'scientists' saying that global warming is a 'myth' (and other FUDD) is actually swallowed by so many people.

We have a greater understanding of geology, geophysics, atmospheric physics and all other sciences than we've ever had before, and the vast, vast, vast majority of scientists agree that there is a significant problem. Unfortunately, the few 'scientists' with some dubious industries backing them can make a lot more noise about their findings, due to the money/PR available to them.

If it takes an American politician to re-address this balance - to give some PR to the other side - then I'm 110% for it.

That would be an interesting graph. Not sure what it would tell us besides the fact that there are people who are concerned that this is a problem, and would like to gain a greater understanding as to whether or not it truly is.

Of course, we could then take this graph, and using a 1 to 1 scale of dollars to dollars, compare this with the funding of those who are being paid to refute the findings of this same aforementioned study.

Now THAT would be an interesting graph!

@Dan,

Amen!

Folks, I would listen to Dan > http://www.boxuk.com/server/show/nav.001001004/Our-Team.html < As an Astrophysicist, he is one who has a pretty good feel for what can be seen as marketing hype, and what can be seen as scientific fact.

Is he a Climatologist? Nope. But Astrophysicist's can read the scientific data that a Climatologist will collect and draw the same conclusions for one primary reason (although there are pleny of others... for example, common sense.)

It doesn't require a specialist to read graphs and understand what they mean.

You may need to have an open mind, but thats not something that tends to be a missing trait amongst members of the scientific community. Part of the scientific process requires the ability to analyze data and be comfortable with the notion that 2 + 2 = 4 if in fact two and two turn out to be the values of the two data points being operated upon.

Why should we see this film? You don't say what it's about.
M. David Peterson

@Farnsworth,

Until yesterday, while I was aware of what the general conclusion of this film was,

"We're in trouble if we don't make some changes"

I wasn't able to provide a film overview or review.

That has now changed, and I am working on the follow-up that will include a podcast from Kurt Cagle and myself in which we are recording tonight. When this all goes live, I promise, there will be nobody left wondering what this is all about :D

Thanks for your comment/question! It's obviously an imortant question to answer. I will make sure it is answered properly.

Well.... I would like to say to all you non believers who probably don't have any children, no respect for human life, compassion for our children's well being, that once the effects of Global Warming have ravished our existence because of lack of understanding or willingness to get off your lazy A!!'S and do something to HELP, rather than always TAKE TAKE TAKE from our beautiful planet. PLEASE COME BACK TO THIS BLOG AND LET US THEN KNOW HOW IGNORANT YOU REALLY ARE!!!

Ask yourself... how hard would it bee to change a few light bulbs? Check the filters on your car and furnace? Turn the lights out when you don't REALLY need them? RECYCLE once in a while? Drive a little less? Turn down your heater just a degree? HOW HARD WOULD IT BE TO DO A FEW SIMPLE THINGS!!!! Even if it's just one thing to contribute, multiply that by how many million people live right here in America?

Those of you who live in the snow regions, are you getting as much snow this year? Be honest!!

Those of you who live in the warm regions, was it hotter this year than most? Be honest!!

BESIDES, DO WE REALLY HAVE THE OPTION TO QUESTION THE POSSIBILITIES??? IF WE DO, WON'T IT BE TOO LATE IF THE MOVIE IS IN FACT WHAT IS REALLY HAPPENING??? HAVE YOU HAD YOUR HEAD SO FAR UP YOUR A!!'S THAT YOU HAVEN'T SEEN WHAT HAS BEEN GOING ON IN THE WORLD??? TURN YOUR TV'S ON AND CHECK OUT WHATS GOING ON IN THE WORLD!!! CAN YOU SAY.... KATRINA??? HAS ANYTHING LIKE KATRINA HAPPENED IN THE LAST 100 YEARS???

Sincerely,

A CONCERNED and RESPONSIBLE human being!!!
