iTunes Music Store: Free Stuff Tuesday

by Erica Sadun

Just finished handing in the latest iDVD update for the Missing Manual series to David Pogue, so I thought I'd celebrate with a nice Free Tuesday roundup. As always, let me know in the comments whether you find this retular feature useful or not. Last week's comments helped shape the look & style for this week.

  • Blush by Plumb (maybe)
Christian Inspirational. Although it's the free single of the week, it showed up as full price in my shopping cart. Order with care.

  • Andy Milonakis Show (Season 2, Episode 1)
"In the season two premiere, Andy receives magic teeth from rapper Paul Wall; calls the cookie doctor; wishes for some extra "pizzazz"; and plays the corn cob harmonica. Also, check out the premier episode of Andy's cartoon, the Lower East Side Dysfunctional Monster Gang Squad Family Cartoon Show." (20 minutes)

  • Discovery Channel
"From expeditions to the corners of the globe to new technologies, animal behavior, extreme weather and human cultures, our podcasts are packed with astounding facts on every download."

  • Face the Nation (CBS News)
    This week's topic: Immigration Reform.

I am sick of Apple supposedly having a free single of the week only to have it show up for 99 cents in the shopping cart. How hard is it to actually do their job at iTunes. They do this at least 2 out of 4 weeks. I wonder how many people actually pay 99 cents for the "free" single.

I'm surprised at all of the complaints about free singles in iTMS not always being free.

I almost always grab the free singles every week (unless it's an artist or genre I know I'm not interested in) and I've never been charged for them. And I check my receipts.

Am I just lucky?

I'm very pleased that you're doing this; I so often forget to go look to see what's free any given week, and it's doubly nice to get not just titles, but a summary what the things actually are.

I just had the same problem last week. I get the email saying to go get the free single, then when I do it charges me $0.99. I sent them a problem report and they sent me back this snide reply saying they'd give me credit for this one instance, but that it's basically my fault!! Incredible.

I smell class-action.
