According to c/net "The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)has decided to publish online all its course materials--a $107,840 value." The goal of this site is to fight the "commercialization of knowledge, much in the same way that open-source people are fighting commercialization of software," says Jon Paul Potts, MIT spokesperson.

Unfornately, after reviewing this site myself, keep in mind that this is a pilot project. Most academic units only have several courses listed. Over time though, there should be more offerings.
