Why Do People Hate Microsoft?

by Preston Gralla

Bad news for Microsoft: A Forrester Research survey found that Microsoft came in almost dead last when it comes to what technology brands people trust, while Apple, Bose, and Dell led the pack. What is it about Microsoft that consumers don't like?

They hate us because we make crappy stuff that they are forced to use because we are monopolists. They hate us because we are convicted anti competitive monopolists. They hate us because we don't deliver what we promise. They hate us because Ballmer is a Nutbag. That hate us because I'm a smug ass. They hate use because they can see that we just copy the coolest thing and pretend we "innovate" it.
Shall I go on?
2006-04-18 11:11:15
Yeah, that's pretty much how I see it. :)
2006-04-18 14:30:59
Don't forget all the companies that have vanished out of existance after a single press release accouncing vaporware from MS.
2006-04-18 15:09:25
Mr. Gralla, are you serious? Realio trulio? See, I make this assumption when someone asks a question. I assume that the person is being genuine, and not just trying to stir up some activity because they already know the answer.

Which of course is a very long answer. We hate microsoft because
-they lie
-shoddy overpriced products
-they are a convicted illegal monopoly that has done more to damage computing and take away customer choice than all the rest of the tech companies combined
-and have turned the Internet into a sewer
-they are 100% anti-customer, and if their previous practices do not convince you, how about their DRM initiative?
-they lie
-they bribe, cheat, steal, and get horrible laws passed
-they subvert governments
-they bully, strongarm, bribe, and extort. Let's start with the ODF fiasco in Massachusetts. They got the Governor and even Senators involved, drove off Peter Quinn, and got disability advocates to lobby against their own interests.
-they are the hidden hand behind SCO's ridiculous lawsuits
-they buy off alleged "tech" "journalists" dirt cheep, with a box of software or a t-shirt
-How evil do they have to be to get your attention?

I grow weary; it would take days to catalogue all the evil things they have done. In Bill's and Steve's worldviews, there is no room on planet Earth for anyone but them, and their ends justify the means.

2006-04-18 22:53:35
Because they make IBM look cool.
2006-04-18 23:40:14
People hate Microsoft because they care only about the bottom line, and they are willing to defend that by any means at their disposal, legal or not. *That's* how they became a monopoly, and cutting off the oxygen supply of competitors has become a habit. They started with the betrayal of IBM over OS2 and won't change, it's in their corporate DNA. An individual exhibiting this kind of behaviour would be labelled a sociopath.

The problems you describe just make people irritated, not hateful.

The reasons I'd never use their products are a mix of the fact that they produce poor copies of the work of others, and the above sociopathic tendencies.

2006-04-19 10:54:40
In response to K. What work of others? Can you please list them. Are you talking about the overpriced software that are out there? And, what is wrong with building on top of what others have done? Can you please tell one piece of software that it totally pure. I can almost assure you that every piece of commercial/open source software out there is a clone of something else. It is the nature of engineering. The difference is that some people know how to make money doing it.
2006-04-20 04:37:50
Dunno how hatred, crappy, monopolist they are, but I can assure one thing that they know how to servive......
2006-04-20 04:44:12
It's simple. Microsoft is a profit-making machine and some people see technology as much more than that. Microsoft doesn't. Despite all their bs on TV about improving people's lives, if they could make more money making people miserable, they would do so and make their shareholders happy. A company with infinite resources could do so much more to help the technology world and ordinary people. But Microsoft won't do anything that just might put a dollar of revenue down the road at risk. So they deserve their reputation.

Why do people dislike Microsoft? Is it really because of the big monopolies? Incomprehensive error messages? Blue screen of death? Come on get real! I think people are against Microsoft because I really think that they don't know what they are talking about. I think it is just a way of being cool or not. If Linux is that good, why aren't we all using it? Ok maybe your boss doesn't like open-source stuff. But hey if you think Linux is better you can use it on the system you use at home?! But you don't use it, because it is too difficult or you even don't know how to do it... . Is Linux that much better then Windows? And to be honost I don't care about the monopoly, ... if you think you can do better then Microsoft then the world is for you to take. But don't blame Microsoft because you are not up to it. And by the way I don't get that many blue screens myself, do you? Really? Maybe it is time to follow a course in how to keep your system healthy. A PC is like a car, you have to work on it yourself or go to a garage. I am a happy windows user/programmer. Go Bill go!
2006-04-24 10:35:11
Why do people hate the New York Yankees? Why do poeple hate oil companies? Look at people like MSDefector - it is about hate. It is a human thing, nothing to do with software.
2006-05-03 15:53:33
JM came the closest.

People hate MS because ... it's cool to hate MS. Just like it was fashionable to hate IBM, or Big Oil (hey, let's all drive to the anti-Petrochemical rally!) or SUVs, or whatever the hate-du-jour is. MS is just taking their turn in the barrel.

Really. Have a look at the responses here, or /., or wherever the MS-hatin' kids today gather. Same old pre-canned virtiolic 'reasons', few of them really thought out or supported by meaningful & objective evidence:

-they lie (quick, find *proof* of three reasonably current lies)
-shoddy overpriced product (ok, recommend something better?)
-convicted monopolist (yeah. reformed, though)
-internet sewer (puh-leeze!)
-DRM (MS enables. Content producers *enforce*. You should be mad at the *labels*, fool!)
-they lie (start the tape loop again, kiddo)

Most haters of basically *anything* are just parroting a popular party line they couldn't argue intelligently if they tried.

Don't want to use MS stuff? That's a personal preference - not a Cause To Hate. Don't you be sucked in to the lates Hate Fad(TM). Take the time to *reason* out your preferences!

Who needs a poll. When I type "I hate N" (Microsoft, OS X, Linux) I get 1 for OS X, about 5 for Linux and pages and pages of MS. Now possibly this is a matter of market proliferation, more people to gripe. However, I disagree with the innoccuous "hate popularity" theory. It is not that it is cool to hate MS. I think its more of a genuine frustration. You want examples, JM? When you walk into a computer store and your only choice is MS Windows, you have a monolpoy. I know that is not so true today because Apple parked there butt pysically in the computer stores. But there was a time when that was true, and it was because of licensing issues. It was enough to ruin the market and grab market share. Remember OS/2? Exactly. Try walking into CompUSA and ask for an IBM machine with Linux. Sorry.

Want an anti-consumer example, suddenly with my latest auto-update, MS are now strong-arming me into buying "Genuine Windows". I did not know that I did not have it! I bought a used machine. How the frick could I know the OS "may" have been pirated? But I can gaurantee you I am paying for it with an new annoyance that will only get worse and pecome a person productivity hinderence until I pay the man. Can you say "extortion"? How rude, presumptuous, infuriating, aggrivating. What are they thinking?! I feel bitch-slapped.

You know what, I'm not going to spend any more time here. And trust me, after 15 years, I could go on. Just let me say this. Bryan, pcomitz, and JM. Have you used anything else? Likely you are MS-only users. Hooked on the MS marketing and vendor lock-in tactics (read Microsoft-only) and other dictorial side-effects of MS, like crack addicts. As a 20 year software developer, architect, and UI designer on Windows, OS X, and Linux, I can say MS Windows is consistantly the most pathetic product on the market. How can a company so large write such buggy software? I just don't understand. (Every day they waste my time with some issue. Linux can do that..on occation, rarely if ever on OS X.) Those who think otherwise are usually MS-only, that is all they've known. Seriously, I mean no offense, but read Plato's The Cave. Get out of the Cave, there is something more! Here are some of my personal quotes concerning Microsoft, born out of pure frustration. Enjoy and put them on a tee shirt if you want :)

"Windows,...just productive enough to make you want to keep trying."

"Where do I want to go today? To the Apple Store."

"Windows No.1 100% gauranteed Virus Protection Software...Mac OS X"

Cheers everyone.

Imagine if you had to eat nothing but potatoes. If the 90% of the food that you could buy from any store were potatoes. And if the only one that could decide what kind of potatoes you should eat it would be one company, one who would tell you that the only appropriate food for you, should be potatoes and nothing else....
Imagine now, how you would feel if that company would tell you, as well, that the potatoes had to be cooked for you in a special way just because it likes them this way...And how you would feel if that potatoes sometimes were in very bad quality but you would have to eat them cause you wouldn't have anything else to eat.
Imagine how you would feel if you'll had to pay for this food to this company, any amount of money, just because you wouldn't find any other kind of food in the market to buy and even if you found something different, this company would tell you that this food could be bad for your stomach, poisonous and dangerous for your health...
And imagine now, that even if you'd like something allternative ( just to change you menu) and asked to a store to sell you ....lets say.. meat.. how would you feel if you realised that the only thing that they will let you buy would be one more time ( what else?? )...potatoes!!
Do you believe that you would feel free in such situation?

monopoly= possesion of the sole right to supply;the supply or service thus controlled ( from the Oxford Dictionary of Current English).

I agree with the "it's cool to hate Microsoft".

Microsoft is a company, yes it's true. They make money and they compete hard. Sometimes too hard, and that resulted in allegations they breached some laws that I bet none of the "anti-Microsoft" people here could actually explain. Actually, even economists and lawyers who specialise in those laws have trouble explaining them.

We all have choice of products. Download Linux for free and try it. I have several times. Buy a Mac. Get an old copy of Windows 3.1 or OS/2. I've tried all these operating systems. Fact is, I think that Windows is the best value for money.

Mac OS is getting better now (finally!) but Apple's way of locking down the entire system (hardware, software, services) and not letting in any competition at all is also a factor to consider if you want to talk "ethics". And it makes OSX way too expensive because you have to buy overpriced Mac hardware with it.

BTW - Apple innovation? Remember OSX is basically a 3rd party OS because Apple couldn't succeed with the OS that Apple built. Shows real innovation huh. Apple is good at "cool" and PR spin.

Funny how half the people complain Microsoft's products are too expensive, and the other half claim they are too cheap. Or how people complain that Microsoft gives some products away for free (when Microsoft's competitors do that) or that Microsoft bundles other products with Windows (which the competitors all do too - Microsoft gets fined $700millions for doing it but the competitors don't get fined at all even though they do EXACTLY the same thing).

Get into the real world a bit more. Microsoft is clean as a whistle compared to most big corporates, it just isn't as good at PR spin. Bill Gates is geeky and awkward. Ballmer is over-enthusiastic. The real big companies like IBM have slick PR that smoothes over all the bad stuff.

That's why punters all believe stuff like "linux is made by people for the people" when actually it's now mainly being developed by a bunch of big corporates (many who are bigger than Microsoft) so that they can get customers to spend lots of money on "services" to make Linux actually usable by an average person. Great strategy, because then your customers get locked in to software that's been custom built for them and can't be upgraded without spending more on "services". Notice they have no incentive to make it work "out of the box" in this model. Microsoft does have that incentive.

Anyway, people will believe what they want. Keep calm, deep down you know it's not that extreme. :-) Then choose your poison! Microsoft ain't perfect, but nor are ANY of the other players. Get a life and go protesting about global warming or the war in Iraq, those are REAL issues where REAL harm is being done.

i hate microsoft for their product. it is unfriendly to my creative mind that needs an os that is responsive to my needs. windows is FULL of stupid questions and dialog boxes. from the stupid paper clip, to their BAD TASTE IN MUSIC. ( DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON EMP AND PAUL ALLEN)
1) if you're gonna copy mac, then do it right.
3) take explorer off the market and cut a deal with firefox
4) stop fixing things that arent' broken
I could go on and on. windows drove me to macs

We hate microsoft because we are severely jealous of their success.
When they offer superior products, we just make commercials and sell the same old crap.
Linux is for dorks and apple is for douche bags.

You know...I just don't use Microsoft on a regular basis. I prefer Apple. I bought the last of the duo core G5 towers, and they ROCK! They were the last of the best before Apple switched to Intel. I run everything on the G5---the Internet, word processing graphics, video, etc. The computer is very stable, smooth, fast, efficient and spontaneous. Best of all, I'm not in anyway beholden to Microsoft or Intel. Their operating system doesn't take over my computer. I don't encounter General Protection Faults, unexpected updates that shut down the computer & viruses. The hackers can't get in because they can't penetrate the OS X firewall. Even when they send me viruses through email, they have no effect whatsoever because they were all written for Intel and Windows. I just tell the hackers to "f**k off--haha you can't touch me". Whenever I install software, I'm not prompted for humungous passwords or nasty encryption codes. I can usually install the same copy of Mac-based software on several machines. Freedom, Freedom, Freedom! No one owns me, I own my machine, my operating system, my software. If people want a taste of freedom & hassle-free computing, get a Mac.

Because they have a long track record of being very unfair to competing products. It is not just competition, it's making life miserable for them and for those of us who wish to use other products. There is a line between fair competition and nasty tactics, and Microsoft has crossed it wa-a-a-a-ay too many times.

I hate Microsoft because they sell products which are half completed, cause infinite crashes and charge like wounded bulls. The world would be happier without Microsoft. Oh for the day when a decent product is produced then the price would not be so much of an issue - maybe it's time to move to Mac.

Microsoft is the epitomy of what is wrong with business in america today. Short term profits at the expense of everyting else, including moral concerns. This is what led the big three automakers into their disastrous state today. The concentration on selling us all those gas guzzling, environmentally destructive SUVs while the japanese and others cleaned our clocks and now are close to owning the american auto market. Now we find that microsoft after they dominated the computer software markets intentionally sells these defective products susceptible to viruses, spywares and malwares from all over the world. Its only a matter of time before their clock is cleaned also by hopefully an american company such as apple however dont count on it. Quite possibly it will be a japanese or korean or other foreign company and the american middle class again will be left to wonder where their good jobs are going. Its a damn shame.

I would love to tell you of our experience my wife and I add with the Big Blue Box (Best Buy) in Green Bay Wisconsin. Trust me if I would have know of your Web site I would have heeded the warnings and advice of others that have had just horrible experience with Best Buy.

Well here goes:

My wife and I decided to take some of our Tax Return to buy us a new Washer, and Dryer. Well as usual we went to BB as we have done for in the last (9) years to buy all of our Big Price appliance items, as we have bought our (3) Desktop Computers, (2) Refrigerator, (1) Dishwasher, (2) TV's (3) DVD Player's, (2) VCR's, (3) Surround Sound Systems.... etc...well you get the picture, close to $10,000.00 over those (9) years.

Things seem to go smoothly with the purchase of both of them till the arraigning of the FREE delivery that was with the package deal. But the sales person worked out the glitches an made the delivery on Wed's the 14th of February in the late afternoon. I informed the sales person that we had some serious plans made, and could they arraign it before or after the 14th. "No" was the reply that it was the only day they could make the delivery. Well ok I said, "but let's make sure it happens". No problem was the reply; a they would call us the night before to confirm the time in the afternoon. "Great", I said, let's do it.

The night of the 13th we waited till around 9pm for their call. Nothing, no call. So I called the store a talked to the sale person that sold us the Washer/Dryer, and asked when they would be delivered. I waited on hold for over 20 minutes. Finally I called back and asked for the Manager on Duty. Waited other 10 minutes till he came on the line. I explained the situation to him; he stated he would check into this. After other 10 minutes he game back on the line. He stated that the Order for delivery was CANCELLED and that there was not going to be a delivery. Well my jaw dropped to the floor. "What the Hell was going on", I asked, I know we didn't cancel the order for delivery. I informed him of this and said this was not acceptable and that they would need to make the delivery as promised and that we would not be available for any other day. And why the Hell had this had happen. After waiting for other 15 minutes on the phone he finally came back on with " it will be delivered tomorrow between 4pm an 6pm" OK I said great. As I was about to thank him he hung up, without an apology of any kind, or any explanation of what was going on? Well this should have clued me into Best Buy's customer service policy of SCREW'EM AN LOSES'EM. Well as promise they did deliver the machines on time, but not with out some hassles there too.

Where comes the good part:

The following week my wife an I decided to buy a new laptop computer, and of course BB was having a Package Deal on a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista installed and also with Mini mouse, and carrying case. This sounded great, and in our price arrange too. So we went into the Store and as usual we had to hunt down someone in the computer department to help us with the purchase. After finding a fresh Snot Nose Narcissistic Kid barely out of high school to help us, we decided to ask a few questions about the New Windows Vista system. We wanted to know if this laptop would be able to communicate with the other (3) computers we have in our home running Windows XP? And would it work with our Linksys Network Router System? And will we be able to share files, and to use our Lexmark Printer with this new Windows Vista, and our Network? " Well of course it would...was his reply, with no problems. " Well with that, and the blind trust I put in people we bought the laptop, and the extended service plan. And back home with our new toy.

Well we got it home and started to set it up, and everything was going as smooth as silk till we tried to set up the Network to share files/folders with the other computers, and the printer. Now I am not illiterate when it comes to computers, nor am I an expert, but I knew something was a miss, and something was not right. Well it was late and we decided to wait till the morning to finish the setup.

The following day was the Worst Frkin Nightmare I have had in 35 years (showing my age of 55) of dealing with any big business, and of course the worst day I ever had with Best Buy.

I kept trying to make the Laptop communicate with the Network, and my other (3) computers. I would keep getting a Microsoft Windows Error of "not finding a Network". After spending an hour on their web site I could find nothing, so I called them. I spent over 45 minutes waiting; finally I spoke to someone about the problem (because I thought since it was a Windows Error the would be able to help) no such luck. They said I would need to contact Toshiba about this since this was an OEM (original equipment manufacture) problem, and not theirs. "Great" Called Toshiba, nothing, this were their service person informs me that the new Windows Vista program will not work with the network, router, a printer if my other (3) computers are running Windows XP. "HOLY COW POOP". This was Frkin Peachy. Toshiba suggested to call Best Buy to see what they can do for me, buy asking someone there if they could help set up the network to communicate with the other computers. Sounded like sense. So I did.

So I called the Big Blue Box (BB) and spoke to same manager I had dealt with on the delivery problem. Wow that was the most stupid mistake I ever made. This manager was the biggest "DICK" I ever spoke to. I calmly explained the problem to him, an how I was led to believe that there would be no problem with this Laptop running Windows Vista to work with my computers, network, and printer. He told me point blank told me that his sales person would have "never would have told me such a thing". God I was outraged, not only was He calling me a Lair but also it was quite clear that this worthless manager was not going to help me at all. I asked to speak to his Boss, (the store manager) SHE was not there. Then I asked how to get in contact with his District manager.... guess what...that's right, he refused to give me that info also stating he did not know how, an even if he did he would not give me that info, because all customer concerns, and problems are handled at the store level, and that this problem did not warrant any further attention. What a worthless piece of human waste. I asked what was the name of his store manager, at first he was very hesent, and then he gave me her name.

Well for the next (4) days I spent calling the Best Buy customer service line, (what a gdamn joke this is), calling their Corp Office, calling their District office, trying to get someone to listen and care about my problem. Again No-one gave a Royal flying Rats Ass about what was going on. Only to inform me that all the customer relation problems needs are handle at the Store Level. "My God, don't they understand that here in lies the problem the Store Management and the rotten little peckerhead that sold me the Laptop. "NO>>>HELL NO". So after nearly going to the Hospital because on my Blood Pressure I decided to give it up. Knowing that Best Buy had SCREWED ME IN THE ASS AN NEVER USED ANY TYPE OF LUB TO EASE THE PAIN. Then out of the Blue the lousy Store Manager called an gave me the lamest apology I ever heard but still would not help me with my problem only offering to send out the GEEK Squad to make my Laptop work with my other computers, an network. But of course this would cost me other $200.00 for their service. God what kind of sick joke these folks live under, what kind of CON-Game they are playing on the costumer, what kind of people believe they would have me come back an waste my money in their store after this kind of Bull Sh___t.

God I pray, and beg anyone reading this not to buy your need's at Best Buy, they will Lie, Cheat, an screw you up the behind so hard, that you will see stars. If any one reading this and still believes they will get good service from BB, all you will get is a Stroke.

People do have a choice, it is called Linux, free open-source and growing in demand. Problem is it is not being developed as fast for the home use as it needs to be. Hardware makers need to get universal unix/linux drivers that actually work and make the UI, installation easy.

Problem. Most Linux developers are either engineer-mindseted people (I'm an engineer myself, mea culpa) who finish a product and write just enough documentation to serve THEIR needs. The polish that corporate OSes have come from lots of money being spent on them. The only really polished Linux distribution (Ubuntu) has a rather large money backing primarily for reasons already suggested--those backers want to be on the ground floor of Microsoft Mark II where the OS may be free but the requisite tech support to do much of anything if you're not up to command line installs with practically no documentation will make you want to rip off your own eyebrows and disinfect the wounds with lemon juice.

I hate microsoft because every version gets more complex with no real benefit. 3.1 was great for students as we could write without buying WORD. Unfortunately, the old computer I had ran slow due to the amount of programming. Windows 95 came with less features I could use, but plenty I couldn't, and the computer ran slower than ever. On changing computer, I had to buy the newer model to get the internet for uni, Windows 98. Again, microsoft sold the windows explorer seperately, and yes, it ran slower. How can they get away with selling rubbish all the time?. I liked the original format without the need for memory chewing graphics tricks. Simplify the program. We don't need crappy talking paperclips. Here is an idea, be like Mac. Forget the upgrades, create and sell entire functioning OS's.

The costs of software as a percentage has only gone up.

Microsoft is not giving straight information but only information coloured by marketing. This is true for their security information and it is true for the bias that is in their search product. It may be that SOME people or parts of Microsoft are straight, they however have the bad luck to be part of that same company.

Trust has to be earned and once trust is lost, it is exceedingly hard to get lost trust back.

I have trouble with muckrosoft because it keeps telling me update all the time and the updates cause problems and then you have to download the solution, and thats only when you figure out which download will solve the problem they created in the first place. I ignore most of the updates now. Everytime I get my wireless configured to work perfectly, windows changes it..I know that sounds paranoid but its true. Thanks for the space to rant. VV

I hate microsoft not because I think they're a monopoly, but because their operating system and software is the least intuitive I've experienced, because they insist on filling my computer with software I don't want/need (some of which they won't let me uninstall, or if I do, it screws up my system), because their customer support is crap in my experience, because a lot of their software is buggy and/or incompatible with other microsoft software and they don't seem to care, because they keep dumbing down windows with each upgrade (cuddly dog, anyone? dancing paperclip? Tip of the bleeding day?), and because it's impossible to uninstall the awful 'internet explorer' properly. And because they seem to have some kind of deal with macromedia/adobe so that dreamweaver is not compatible with linux. And of course, there's Palladium (Thanks, but no thanks!). And the fact I need security checks to play tracks I've ripped from my own CDs I bought with my own money on my own computer on my legal copy of windows. And the fact I bought windows media player with my computer, but - get this! - microsoft wants another tenner (US$20) out of me to allow me to play my own dvds on my own legal software on my own legal windows on my computer that I own. If it wasn't for the dreamweaver thing I'd bin it completely (as it is, I'm saving up for a Mac).

Thank you for this venting opportunity. No hard feelings towards most microsoft employees (I'm mates with one), just the control freaks at the top and their paperclip friend! And whoever came up with the terms and conditions for using msn messenger.

I agree they are a bunch of c****. They sell software that is unreliable. When you open the fucking box and the wrong software is in it then the fuckers won't take it back.

I hate windows because its SHIT! pure and simple. I cant understand people that use it, they must be thick. They keep buying into constant upgrades that don't work, they then have to pay more money to third party companies to make their computers safe and secure. when they have got their upgraded software working they then find the hardware isn't good enough, so off they go again down the shops to buy more memory, a faster graphics card and a faster processor just so the software performs how it should, but the software gets upset cos you got new hardware so you have to update the drivers to make the software run with the hardware and then a new upgrade comes out and bugger me the cycle starts again. You do all that so you can play the latest games on it!

Mr Gates and his PR machine has a good job at brain washing the world into thinking windows is a good OS, in fact what am I saying im going straight out and buying my way back into Bills arms, its been a long time but I know he will have me back, after all one more suckers is extra dollars in his pocket.

P.S. it has been said in previous post that Linux is hard to install and hard to use, I would just like to say that that is complete and utter bollox!. Linux comes in many many wonderful flavors some are hard but most are easy to set up only requiring minimal user input. It is true to say that some distros are back by big corporations but the vast majority are not.
If you want good reliable, safe, secure and virus free computing give Linux a go. You don't even have to install it to hard disk, there are many distros that will run from cd, these are known as livecd's, this allows you to play before you install.

So, go on do something radical, break free and stick the finger up to Mr Gates.

If your site is in top 3 most visited websites, products/services are very very really great, OR really bad.
More people are exploring this every day.

I disagree, I have nothing against big corporations and only hippies seem to. Microsoft has pissed me off at every turn in my life, nothing works the way it should. They intentionally design products to break, they treat consumers like dribbling retards, and are in every field the laziest most malevolent group in the IT industry. Viruses, glitches, crashes, instead of going back to fix, they just keep adding. They never diagnose, they just fork out some Advil and send you on your way. While they sit on bucket loads of cash, smarter 8 year olds out code them and out perform. Use linux, macs make you stupid and windows won't work

Microsoft has changed word. Keystroke sequences I used to use don't work in the new release. Why screw with something I know how to do very well? If you want to ask a question -- like, where is the Tools button, or where is my user documentation -- you have to pay Microsoft $49 per incidence to ask a question. I've spent hours trying to make word work the way i want. Hours when I'm on deadline. And you ask, why do I hate, loathe, abominate, despise Microsoft?

Microsoft is out of control. I am finished with them. Let's all support Linux, Apple, any other Operating System than microsoft, or should I say monopoly$oft???

I think people hate them because they are fed up with erroneous products. I love Microsoft because I understand that they supply their products to every country in the world. I, however, am no stranger to faulty hardware thanks to them. Thank goodness they have a generous warranty policy, as I have never been screwed out of free support/repair due to warranty issues unlike other companies. To use some products, you need knowledge and patience. Most Americans don't have either.

Here is why I hate them: through necessity I use MisFit products at home and work. Recently I decided to upgrade to Office 2007. And I went out and bought the upgrade for home use - all honest and above board. As many people know (and as I now know) it is a flawed product indeed in many areas not prviding the functionality of Office 2003.

Trying to write a report in a hurry that has diagram etc. I found Office 2007 to be the worst I have experienced. Particularly Word. It has always been quirky, but this is the pits. Ok, so I don't like it.

But my main beef is that I cannot go and get a product refund. I paid almost $300 for the upgrade and now I am stuck with an inferior product. Obviously I will have to revert to 2003.

Then there was Vista. Recntly I bough a new PC with Vista installed - again I paid for it though it was included in the price. As with Office I found it inferior to old XP in many ways. I shall revert to XP, but the point is I cannot get a refund.

The smug Balmer (really Blamer) and Gates rake in the dollars, hire lawyers and just keep going. And we simply have recourse to prevent the monopoly - EU please fine them 10 Billion, no make that 20 Billion

I manage a large team - several hundred developers. That is the end of MisFit in my organization. A drop in the bucket, but at least a token against this disgusting organization.

You always have a choice to choose.Did Microsoft use a gun and point at your head to buy it.I am using Open Source/Mirosoft products, when I dont like one of their product,I will use alternative which is best for what I want. Why do you need to hate it and make yourself miserable for nothing, just walk away with it as it does not threat you in anyway. No matter its Microsoft/Open Source or other technologies in the market,"THERE IS ALWAYS BUGS,NON WORKING FUNCTIONALITY".If you say its only happened in Microsoft product alone, you should spend your time on other products, which I have experienced with non-usability and ton of bugs and patches need to apply.Be true to yourself!

What programs is NASA using to keep the astronauts in space? It can't be anything that uses Microsoft....because if it were they would be dropping to earth every other day from the system crashing with bugs/viruses/worms...etc:
Why is the same technology that is used by NASA not marketed to consumers.............why are we subjected to this fustrating mess and drivel from microsoft. Gates has subjected us to his monopoly of chaotic, unstable mess he calls "windows."

In ten years I have gone through FIVE hardware...because of software destruction....that is FIVE POLLUTANTS.....added to the earths environment. The hardware of the US yesteryear used to last 20 years and five to ten before it ever needed service!!!!!!!!!

Microsoft deliberately sabotages consumers ....in order to make consumers cash cows with total disregard to the inefficiency of wasted time via crashed computers...and the trememdous WASTE PRODUCTS the pc hardware is. Bill gates is a MAJOR PARASITE of the 21st century. He is an evil genious.

I fucking hate Microsoft. Their software is shit to compare with the others. I love Linux and its reliability. I hate internet explorer and I hate msn messenger. I installed smn messenger and it fucked up my internet. Msn was the only one working and the rest of programs were not. As soon as I uninstalled it everything started to work fine. I hate windows. They are slow and not reliable. People want Linux.
