WWDC Soirée

by Erica Sadun

I have no idea what SF Mac ISV is. I wouldn't know one if I tripped over one. However, independent developers may want to check out their planned WWDC get-together for Sunday, the 10th of June. The soirée runs from 5:30 to 8:30 PM with food and drink, allowing small companies and independent developers to network. The sfMacISV webpage is sparse on details but it looks like the event will be free for the first 50 developers to register and $20 thereafter. For more info, contact Chuck Soper via this RSVP page. And if anyone has any further information about who these people are, please feel free to drop a note into the comments.

An ISV is an independent software vendor. One of the things that makes Mac OS X such a joy to use is the weatlh and quality of the independent software available for download. Look at RapidWeaver, Delicious Library, Disco, TextMate, SubEthaEdit, USB Overdrive, Adium etc. for examples of awesome independent software.

So what is an ISV? A software vendor (developer) that's not part of a larger organization. They're the cowboys of the software development world. They're often the ones on the cutting edge, with all the awesome new ideas, forging their own trails and setting their own destinies. I'm really excited for this event - it's an opportunity to meet with a lot of awesome people and talk about the things that really mac software development on the mac exciting and interesting. If you've ever wanted to start your own business writing software for OS X, this will be an AWESOME opportunity to talk to people who are already living that dream ;).

Ok, so there may be a little bit of embellishment there, but I'm really excited about the list of attendees already, and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to talk to a lot of these people face to face (again). I've met a lot of them already, and aside from the professonal relationships I have with them, they're also really cool people just to sit down and talk to.

Just an FYI, due to feedback, the event has been renamed to SF Mac Indie. Seems mac developers related to "Indie" better than they do "Independent Software Vendor". Personally, I think the latter has a nice ring to it ;). With the change, the new domain is www.sfmacindie.com (the old link will redirect to the new one, so don't fret if you can't change your bookmarks). Hope to see lots of people there!
